Control your Blackberry Storm device from your PC

You may have noticed applications that claim you can use Blackberry Messenger on our PC, the truth is that you can’t directly have an application just for BBM. Even though you have tried it, it may work. There is an official application recognized by RIM, that allows you to control the Blackberry Storm, and not only can you BBM, but also do anything at all.

Pocket Controller for Blackberry is a great application if you too lazy to stretch for your phone. There’s a catch here, you may think you just download the application on PC and your device, it isn’t that easy. The catch is that you have to either connect the device via WiFi or USB. The Linux users will be lucky if they have Wine installed, they can use the WiFi method, Trust me, the Virtual Box will just get you confused and it doesn’t work 100%.

The Virtual Box is pretty slow. The developers didn’t quite notice something when they made this, just download it and you can use it lifetime in trial mode rather than wasting money at all. This isn’t guaranteed to work with every Blackberry Storm device, especially the Blackberry Storm 9550, this does gladly work with the Blackberry Curve 8520.

foursquare and BBM: A Super App Meets the Social Platform (VIDEO)

One of the highlights for me this week at BlackBerry® World™ 2011 was having the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing work from developers starting to leverage the BBM social platform. Social networking application foursquare is one such example, and was demoed during the Tuesday General Session keynote by Senior Director of Developer Relations (and fellow Inside BlackBerry blogger) Mike Kirkup.
The above video is really three videos in one! First, I speak with Mike about the overall opportunity available to developers that integrate BBM social platform APIs into their application. Then, foursquare developers Pete and Jeff provide a great demonstration of foursquare for BlackBerry integrated with BBM. I then pass the mic to Mike for a brief sit down with Pete about developing for BlackBerry and how the coming BBM social platform integration enhances the foursquare super app experience.

Sprint Delays the 3G BlackBerry PlayBook

playbook delay 550x459 Sprint Delays the 3G BlackBerry PlayBook, again

The 3G BlackBerry PlayBook was scheduled to release on April 19th, but was then later pushed to May 8th. According to the leaked slide above, the 3G has been delayed indefinitely, but is still said to be releasing, as dealers are said to hold on to promo materials and pedestals. Sprint is also set to release a 4G WiMax version later this year. It isn’t certain what has caused the delay, some have speculated the CDMA radio technology, while others say to clear stock of the WiFi-only version from retailers.
