110. How to customize the appearance of the BlackBerry PlayBook

One way to customize the appearance of the BlackBerry Playbook is by setting a custom wallpaper.  To do so, complete the following steps:
  1. Open the Pictures application on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
  2. Select one of the built-in wallpapers, or choose a picture that has been imported onto the device.  See BBC for more information on synchronizing personal media with the BlackBerry PlayBook.
  3. Once a picture has been selected, swipe down from the top bezel of the tablet, then tap on "Set as Wallpaper" to complete the task.
Another way to customize is to change application icon positions in the application drawer with the following steps:
  1. Select the pane to be customized, then swipe up to open the drawer.
  2. Tap and hold on an application icon (sometimes known as a long-press) until the icons start a pulsing animation.
  3. Icons can now be dragged and dropped into the desired position.
  4. When done editing icon positions tap the checkmark icon in the upper left to complete the task.
The settings menu holds a few more options that can be used to customize the experience.  To begin, tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner of the home screen:
  • Set a preferred keyboard type in the Keyboard tab, choosing from QWERTY, QWERTZ and AZERTY styles.
  • Select a preferred language from the Language tab in the drop down list.
  • The Screen tab offers additional settings to control screen brightness and backlight timeout both on battery power and while plugged in.
  • Use the Sounds tab to set individual volume levels for input, such as typing on the keyboard, and notifications, such as receiving a new message.
